BEST OF ASIAN CINEMA: A scene from film `Bong Connection' to be screened at Osian's Cinefan.
NEW DELHI: The countdown to the Capital's "filmi" monsoon has just begun. While there will be no wet, clinging saris or love songs here unlike in Hindi movies, it will literally be raining films from this Friday at Osian's Cinefan. And those who want to enjoy the best part of the movie season will have to buy tickets this time round. Bringing to the screen the best of Asian cinema, the festival has an interesting line-up of Arab films, alternative Indian films and hard-hitting Sri Lankan films. In a bid to reach out and convert more people to the cause of cinema, there will be special screening for school children. "These will be morning shows. We have got an enthusiastic response from schools that we have approached," said Aruna Vasudev, Director of Cinefan. A great way to introduce children to the medium, these movies will expose them to a whole new world. All these screenings will be free and organisers hope that they will serve as the best lesson for children for better cinema. Apart from forging new celluloid bonds for the uninitiated, there will also be the usual Talent Campus. With many talented students having graduated to making movies themselves, the campus seems to be achieving its purpose. Getting tips from the best in the business, the highlight of this Talent Campus is Jean-Claude Carriere, one of the world's foremost screenwriters. Having worked with Luis Bunnel, Jean-Luc Godard and Pierre Etaix, this legendary scriptwriter will conduct two sessions this time. Tickets for Cinefan will be available at the venue of the festival in Siri Fort Complex. There are some shows that are complimentary. Those interested in watching the films will have to ask for passes at the counter.
