A computer training programme for judicial officers, organised by the National Engineering College at Kovilpatti, was held on its premises recently. Judicial officers of the ranks of principal district judge, chief judicial magistrate, district munsif and judicial magistrates from six districts attended the training. The syllabus covering topics like MS Office, Internet and e-mail operations was prepared by the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy. K. Ramar, head, Computer Science department at the college co-ordinated the training.
The inaugural of college union at St. Mary's Women's College in Tuticorin was held recently. P. Tresina Soris, a third-year undergraduate student, took charge as chairperson, and Durga Karthiyayeni and T. Divya Priya were vice-president and secretary respectively. Ida Joseph, Principal, Sarah Tucker College in Tirunelveli district, presided over the function.
A special one-day camp for employment exchange spot registration was organised recently by the Centre for Career Guidance and Vocational Training of Thiruvalluvar College, Papanasam, in association with District Employment Office, Rotary Club of Ambasamudram and Kalaimagal Educational Society on the college premises to enable the students in and around Ambasamudram to register their names with the employment exchange. The District Employment Officer, M. Shanmugasundaram, inaugurated the camp in the presence of the Principal of the college, V. Sankarasubramoniam. He said that more than 9,000 students had registered their names through the special spot registration camps conducted across the district. In the camp held at Thiruvalluvar College, 601 boys and 949 girls registered their names.
The SCAD College of Engineering and Technology, Cheranmahadevi, conducted a three-day faculty development programme for its teaching and non-teaching staff recently to cater to the needs of the students. A special invitee and resource person, Samuel Sathish, from Chennai offered lectures and training to the participants in improving positive attitude and techniques to improve teaching of faculty members. On the third day, Rev. Fr. A.K. George spoke. Games and cultural events were held to bring out the latent talents of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
