NEYVELI: The ninth edition of the Neyveli Book Fair-2006 organised by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) concluded on Sunday. Despite the 48-hour-strike by the NLC staff from July 4 to 6 against the Centre's divestment proposal, the fair went on uninterrupted. Thousands of booklovers made a beeline to the 10-day fair, stacked with books on wide ranging subjects such as science, engineering, computer science and spirituality. Delivering the valedictory address, Justice M. Karpagavinayagam, Madras High Court Judge, said books were not just meant to excite but also entertain readers. "Good books will have a lasting impression on readers and elevate them from the mundane to sheer grandeur." Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC, S. Jayaraman said the fair could be termed a success if it enthused youth to take to reading books. Book lovers would always look forward to the annual fair, Mr. Jayaraman said. NLC Chief Vigilance Officer V. Narayanan said the Neyveli Book Fair was treated on a par with the fairs organised in New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. Besides fulfilling its social obligations, the NLC, by holding the fair, was also inculcating the reading habit. On the occasion, Prabanjan, noted writer, and Egam Pathipagam were honoured.
