DHARWAD: Geeta Patil, president of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat, has directed officials to compulsorily attend gram sabhas and select beneficiaries for various schemes. She was chairing the monthly meeting of the Karnataka Development Programmes here on Wednesday. Ms. Patil told the officials to conduct the selection process at the gram sabhas after providing complete information about the Government's new schemes. Referring to the complaints about sale of fake seeds and fertilizers, she asked the officials to take strict action against the guilty. She also asked them to focus more on programmes relating to rainwater harvesting. Participating in the discussion, zilla panchayat members S.C. Chikkannavar and Amrut Desai urged the officials to entrust unemployed youth with maintenance of small ponds and tanks. M.G. Vijaykumar, Chief Executive Officer, expressed displeasure over the style of functioning of the Regional Traffic Office. He said that excess money was being collected as "registration fee" from those purchasing two-wheelers, and directed officials to take steps to prevent this practice. The officials were also directed to start awareness campaign in villages regarding the National Horticulture Mission and the Horticulture Department's schemes.
