HUBLI: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the Rashtriya Hindu Sena and the Hubli-Dharwad Congress Minority Cell took out protest marches here on Wednesday, condemning the serial blasts in Mumbai. The BJP march, which began from Durgadbail Circle, concluded at the office of the Hubli tahsildar. They submitted a memorandum urging the Prime Minister to initiate measures to book the guilty at the earliest.
`Soft approach'
Addressing protesters at Durgad Bail, Pralhad Joshi, Dharwad North MP, condemned the blasts. The Union Government's soft approach towards terrorists had resulted in the killing of innocent people, he said. The protesters burnt in effigy terrorists, at Kittur Channamma Circle. BJP leaders Datta Dorle, Ranga Baddi, Nagusa Kalburgi, and D.K. Chauhan and took part in the agitation. Members of ABVP too took out a protest march and burnt terrorists in effigy near Moorusavir Math. Rashtriya Hindu Sena members led by Krishna Gandagalekar staged a protest at Durgad Bail Circle. They accused the Union and Maharashtra Governments of having failed to protect the lives of innocent people. Members of Hubli-Dharwad Congress Minority Cell staged a demonstration in front of the B.R. Ambedkar statue near the head post office. They urged the Government to initiate measures to book the guilty. Babajan Mudhol, Rajshekhar Mensinkai, Mahendra Singhi, Yusuf Savanur, Devanand Jagapur, Anwar Mudhol, Shafi Muddebihal, Kiran Hombal, and Nazir Kolkar were among those who took part in the agitation. They urged the Union Government to provide adequate compensation to the blast victims. Various organisations held protests in Dharwad too. Hubli-Dharwad Police have tightened security in the twin cities, especially in the busy areas. Narayan Nadamani, Commissioner of Police, said that six platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police had been deployed. Security had been tightened at market places, bus and railway stations. Special police teams and dog squads had been pressed into service, he added.
