COLOMBO: A day after Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse unveiled his vision for the resolution of the ethnic conflict, four persons including a soldier and two police personnel were killed in continuing violence. According to the military, two policemen died in a claymore attack in Jaffna. A senior member of the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) Bolder Rajan (43) was shot dead in Jaffna on Wednesday, sources said. He was an honorary member of the last Jaffna Municipal Council under the leadership of Sellan Kandaiyan, and resigned from his post with the other members after the controversial reign of the Council. A soldier was also killed in Jaffna.
To join Government
The Ceylon Workers Conference (CWC), a constituent of the ruling alliance, has decided to join the Government of Rajapakse. "We feel this Government would continue for another four years. In this country, every thing operates through political patronage. We believe interests of our people would be better served from inside the Government and hence our decision to become part of it," Ramaiah Yoganathan, vice-president, CWC told The Hindu . Leader of the Opposition and a former Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, is expected to visit New Delhi for talks with the Manmohan Singh Government.
