Madikeri: N.U. Nachappa, secretary-general of Codava National Council (CNC), has urged the Union Government to table a Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament to create a Codava Autonomous Region (CAR) along with the proposed tabling of a Bill to provide greater autonomy to Gorkha Hill Council. He told presspersons here on Wednesday that he had despatched copies of his memorandum to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh; Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil; Governor T.N. Chaturvedi and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. The State Government should concur with the Union Government to carve out Codava Autonomous Region, Mr. Nachappa said.
Mr. Nachappa urged the State Government to take steps to contain the wild elephant menace. He submitted a memorandum to Conservator of Forests and Deputy Commissioner in this regard. The Forest department should provide protection to the villagers, he said.
