THE CHAMPIONS: P. Laxmi Sahiti and R. Ashwath, winners of the girls and boys' titles respectively.
VISAKHAPATNAM: R. Ashwath of Tamil Nadu and P. Laxmi Sahiti of Andhra Pradesh won the boys' and girls' titles respectively in the National sub-junior chess championships which concluded at the Vaisakhi Jala Udyanavanam here on Wednesday. While Laxmi Sahiti stayed ahead of the top seed and teammate I. Ramya Krishna with a clear one point lead, Ashwath, held by V.A.V. Rajesh of AP in the 11th and final round, clinched the title with the help of a better progressive score. Tamil Nadu's B. Adhiban defeated M. Shyam Sundar of AP to take his tally to 9.5 points to be on par with Ashwath. But Ashwath with a progressive score of 58.5 pipped Adhiban (58) to the title. The Commissioner of Police, V.S.K. Kaumudi, gave away the trophies and prizes. The results: Boys: 1. R. Ashwath (9.5, 58.5), 2. B. Adhiban (9.5, 58), 3. S. Nitin (TN, 8, 54), 4. Swayams Mishra (Orissa, 8, 51.5), 5. P. Shyam Nikhil (TN, 8, 47), 6. Sandipan Chatterjee (WB, 8, 47), 7. V.A.V. Rajesh (AP, 8, 44.5), 8. Bitan Banerjee (WB, 7.5, 49), 9. K. Narayanan (TN, 7.5, 47.6), 10. Bhuvanesh Ramnath (TN, 7.5, 47). Girls: 1. P. Laxmi Sahiti (10, 59), 2. I. Ramya Krishna (9), 3. Kanuri Tejaswi (8.5), 4. P. Uthra (TN, 8, 50), 5. Padmini Rout (Orissa, 8, 50), 6. S. Athirai (TN, 8, 47), 7.
