JAIPUR: The National Commission for Women has sought a report from the Rajasthan Government on the alleged attempt at molestation of girls and the police harassment of the inmates, in the first week of July, at the Emmanuel Mission-run orphanage in Kota, currently taken over by the State's Social Welfare Department. The NCW has asked the Rajasthan Women's Commission to look into the matter and make sure that the children in the orphanage are safe. "It is a matter of grave concern. When the police and the officials are expected to protect the young children and teenage girls at the orphanage, they themselves are turning perpetrators of this kind of injustice," said NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas talking to media persons here on Tuesday. Dr. Vyas said the Commission had taken cognisance of the developments at the orphanage and would consider sending a team to investigate after hearing from the State Government within 10 days. Dr. Vyas said a delegation of Christians and representatives of NGOs had met her in the morning on the issue. A memorandum from the groups to her said that the "girl inmates of the orphanage are still under wrongful confinement of the police and the officers of the Social Welfare Department against whom the girls have made serious complaints".
