One killed in rains

Chandigarh: One person was killed and eight were injured when the wall of a police station collapsed in Ludhiana city of Punjab due to heavy rains overnight.

The deceased was identified as Ram Kishen, a migrant labourer, who was standing in a queue along with other labourers for verification at the police station when its wall gave way.

The injured were admitted to the civil hospital of the city.

Landslides in Himachal

Shimla:

A few houses were damaged in two landslides here on Wednesday with no loss of life reported even as heavy rains continued in the State during the last 24 hours, met and official sources said.

Two government quarters were extensively damaged in Chotta Shimla area after their retaining wall collapsed, while another was partially damaged due to heavy rains, the sources said.

The sources said the district administration has shifted the people living in these government quarters to PWD Rest House before being allotted new government accommodation.
