Saving money by shifting premises
K.T. Sangameswaran
Chennai:
Public servants say that even a rupee saved matters much to the Government. Then, imagine saving over Rs.1 lakh for the Government. This is the amount officials say they can save by shifting the office of the State Human Rights Commission. Authorities say that the Commission had to pay a huge rent when it was housed in a building on Royapettah High Road. The Commission now functions from one of the several government bungalows on Greenways Road, R.A. Puram.
One wonders whether a lot of money can be saved if the Government adopts similar measures when it comes to organising functions or conserving energy in government buildings.
