BANGALORE: N. R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies, will continue as the Non-Executive Chairman of the company's board and Chief Mentor after retiring on August 20 on reaching 60 years in a plan finalised by the board to accommodate different factions without ruffling feathers. The board also resolved to appoint Mr. Murthy as an additional director after he retires from the services of the company as per the service rules of the company. "After Mr. Murthy's retirement, Mr. Nandan will be the senior most person in the organisation. He will assume the role so far played by Mr. Murthy as the senior most person but without the designation of Chairman and Chief Mentor. We will all look up to him,'' T. V. Mohandas Pai, Member of the Board and Head, Human Resource Development, Infosys, told reporters here. Mr. Pai proclaimed Mr. Nandan as the "successor'' to Mr. Murthy and said Mr. Murthy's role post-retirement "would be limited in the corporation'' by virtue of his status as a Non-Executive Chairman. "Mr. Nandan is the successor,'' he said, adding that Infosys had decided to leave vacant for now the position of an Executive Chairman. According to the plan, Mr. Nilekani will offload the designation of President to S. Gopalakrishnan, now Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director. Mr. Nilekani will be re-designated as CEO and Managing Director, while Mr. Gopalakrishnan will be promoted and re-designated as President, COO and Joint Managing Director from August 21.
