KADAPA: The Government has permitted Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to take over Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy temple at Devunikadapa, TTD Joint Executive Officer G. Balaramaiah said on Wednesday. Speaking after launching the first three-day `Varuna Japam' outside Tirumala in the `Koneru' of the temple, Mr. Balaramaiah said TTD was conducting various spiritual programmes for the well-being of mankind. `Varuna Japam' was being performed to invoke the rain God and Lord Venkateswara's blessings in some temples that are in drought-hit areas, he said.
Japam schedule
The first-ever `Varuna Japam' was performed in the pushkarini of Sri Varaha Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala last month, the JEO said. Japam, homam, parayanam and Sri Vishnu, Siva, Navagraha, Ganapati, Varuna and moola mantras were chanted during the homam. Laghupurnahuthi was performed in the forenoon and Sahasranam and pushpa kumkumarchana in the evening. The japam would conclude on Friday with a Mahapurnahuthi. `Varuna Japam' would be performed at Mahanandi in Kurnool district from July 18 to 20 followed by Dharmavaram, Guntur, Nellore and Prakasam districts in August. TTD Dharma Prachara Parishad secretary P. Chenchu Subbaiah said Dharmika Vignana exams would be conducted on November 26. The tests would be held for nearly 4 lakh students of sixth and seventh standard students and for those from eighth standard to SSC. The students would be given a book free of cost and 500 SC/ST students would be given cash incentive, he said. Chairman of Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy temple G. Krishna Reddy, Executive Officer P. Venkatasubba Reddy, former chairman A. Krishna Kumar and leaders Thambi Subbaramaiah and Kalavathi, temple priests and devotees took part.
