CPI wants GO withdrawn

Staff Reporter

`Permitting others religions to carry out their activities will lead to unrest'

ANANTAPUR: District secretary of Communist Party of India M.V. Ramana on Wednesday criticised the State Government for issuing the GO enabling other than Hindus to carry out their religious activities on five out of the seven Tirumala hills.

Speaking to newspersons here he said this might lead to religious and social conflict. He felt that allowing other religious activities on the seven hills belonging to Lord Venkateshwara, believed by millions all over the globe, was hurting belief and sentiments of majority.

He urged the Government to withdraw the GO issued in the matter or else it would turn into a major problem.

`A black day'

Referring to the Congress capturing the Anantapur Zilla Parishad posts, he alleged that Ministers -- J.C. Diwakar Reddy and N. Raghuveera Reddy -- had subverted people's verdict by encouraging defection of two TDP members by luring them. Such issues would disturb peace and encourage terrorist tendencies, he observed. It was not correct on the part of the Congress to resort to undemocratic methods by citing such similar acts by TDP in Dharmavaram municipality and Ranga Reddy ZP in the past. He urged the political parties to stick to moral values and respect people's mandate.
