India, Japan exploring avenues to strengthen ties

`Japanese firms recruiting Indian engineers for their communication skills'

CHENNAI: The Indian and Japanese governments are exploring avenues to strengthen ties and create more opportunities for people of both the countries, said Yoshiaki Kodaki, Consulate General of Japan in Chennai.

"Both the governments are aware of developments in IT in recent years. Japanese companies have been recruiting Indian engineers as they appreciate the good communication skills of Indian professionals," he said.

He said the governments had planned a cultural exchange programme next year to enable citizens to know more about each other's country and work towards economical advancement in both nations. Mr. Kodaki was speaking at a meeting organised by SRM Technologies here on Sunday. Fifteen software engineers from Japan, being trained by SRM Technologies, were present. SRM Technologies is training the engineers in programming languages such as C# (C sharp) and .net (dot net) apart from spoken English. The programme, which commenced on June 24 will conclude on July 25. All the trainees are fresh graduates, who have been recruited by Japan-based Oki Software Company. They would go back to Japan once the programme is over.

"We have trained about 130 people in the last two years. The training offered is not just in IT but also includes other aspects to give them regional and cultural exposure," said M.R. Ranganathan of SRM Technologies.
