Deficit rainfall in State

Srikakulam, Vizianagaram get excess rain

HYDERABAD: The State has suffered rainfall deficit of 23 per cent for the Southwest monsoon period till date. It received 132 mm rainfall so far as against the normal of 172.6 mm.

When separately assessed, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts, however, received excess rainfall. Region-wise, north coastal districts had 40 per cent excess, south coastal deficit of 16 per cent, Rayalaseema 15 per cent excess, North Telangana 28 per cent deficit and South Telangana 8 per cent deficit. So far, only 30 per cent of the normal crop areas has been covered with sowings in the State. An Irrigation Department chart shows no reservoir has improved its storage position except those based on Krishna, Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Jurala and Vamsadhara and Nagavali.
