Telangana employees' JAC formed

HYDERABAD: Telangana-based unions of employees, teachers and workers have formed a joint action committee (JAC) to tackle the problems faced by these sections in the region. The JAC would function independent of a similar body at the State-level, its chairman, D. Sudhakar, told a news conference on Wednesday. . Bomb scare in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: Tuesday's serial blasts in Mumbai led to a bomb scare in the heart of the temple town on Wednesday. An Ambassador car parked for the last three days on Nethaji Road near the railway station, triggered panic among shopkeepers and residents, who informed the police. A bomb squad was pressed into service. A search, however, yielded nothing. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The two-day State BJP executive meeting scheduled to begin here on July 16 has been postponed in view of panchayat elections. Fresh dates would be announced later, K. Laxman, party general secretary and official spokesman, said in a statement on Wednesday. - Special Correspondent

Girl hit by cricket

ball dies

ADILABAD: In an apparent freak accident 12-year-old Rathod Sheetal died while being taken to hospital after being hit by a cricket ball on June 11 evening at Shantapur village in Gudihatnoor mandal. A case under section 302 has been registered by Gudihatnoor police against Sachin, 14, a local student whose hit allegedly was the cause of Sheetal's death. - Staff Reporter

Hotel worker ends life

Sangareddy: A 27-year-old hotel worker of Old Bowenpally in Secunderabad, Tukkoji Krishna, committed suicide in Pragnapur of Medak district in the wee hours of Wednesday. Before consuming pesticide Krishna called the owner of the hotel he worked for and his relatives saying he wanted to end his life unable to bear police torture.

According to Gajwel police Krishna wsa involved in a motorcycle theft three years ago and was kept in Cherlapalli and Janagaon jails several times. - Staff Reporter

4 killed in freak accident

VISAKHAPATNAM: Four persons, hailing from Rajahmundry, died in a freak accident at Rebaka village on the Anakapalle-Sabbavaram route past midnight on Tuesday. The incident occurred when a lorry transporting iron pipes from Srikakulam to Rajahmundry overturned. The four who were sitting on the pipes were crushed to death. - Staff Reporter

Ordinance promulgated on Vedic varsity

HYDERABAD: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Wednesday promulgated the Sri Venkateswara Vedic University Ordinance for establishment of the varsity under the aegis of the Tirumala- Tirupathi Devasthanams. The Cabinet at its meeting held on July 7 had approved a draft ordinance. - Special Correspondent

Left to protest against terror attacks

HYDERABAD: The scheduled joint protest demonstrations on Thursday by CPI and CPI (M) against rising prices have been postponed in view of the Mumbai serial bomb blasts and attack on tourists by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. They will now be held between July 17 and 19. In a joint statement on Wednesday, K. Narayana and B.V. Raghavulu, secretaries of CPI and CPI(M) respectively, called for demonstrations on July 13 and 14 against terrorists' attacks. - Special Correspondent
