Centre soft on terrorism: Telugu Desam

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has condemned Tuesday's serial blasts in Mumbai and lashed out at the Centre for being soft on terrorism and failure to gather intelligence.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, he charged the UPA Government with going soft on extremism and terrorism. "It is the duty of the Government to ensure safety and security of people. We demand Centre to tell us what it has been doing. People are feeling unsafe and insecure," he said.

Calls for united fight

When asked if he wanted Prevention of Terrorism Act to be re-introduced, Mr. Naidu said he would not go in to those details. He said it was the duty of every political party to come together for combating terrorism.

The TDP president said the least that the Governments were expected to do was to keep a strict watch on anti-social elements and maintain law and order.

It was quite obvious that there had been an Intelligence failure, he said while taking a dig at the Congress Government for entertaining mercy petitions from hardcore criminals and letting them go scot-free.

Gesture to victims

Replying to a question, Mr. Naidu said the party had decided to hold a blood donation camp. He appealed to party workers to rush to the TDP headquarters and donate blood to save lives in Mumbai.

He said about 1,000 units of blood would be sent there.
