Focus on ashram schools and hostels

BHADRACHALAM: Monsoon brings in its wake the risk of epidemics. It is more often so for tribal communities in Bhadrachalam division. Their main source of concern is the forest-dwelling mosquito species, especially the ones spreading chikungunya and viral fever.

Though there are hardly any cases diagnosed with chikungunya so far, the administration has stepped up the implementation of preventive strategies to keep away viral diseases transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes.

A massive exercise was taken up in the sub-plan area to deal with the situation. The official machinery has equipped itself to reach out to the sections found to be more vulnerable to epidemics.

Officials have focused their attention mainly on 70,000 students on the rolls of ashram schools and hostels of the Tribal Welfare Department.

ITDA Project Officer Buddha Prakash Jyothi said here on Wednesday that all ashram school students were being provided with a homeopathic medicine.

Three doses of the medicine, which could help prevent the incidence, were being made available to each and every individual or family.
