Water supply to

be affected

NEW DELHI: Due to major repair work on the South Delhi mains, water supply will not be available on Thursday evening and Friday morning in some parts of the Capital.

According to a Delhi Jal Board announcement, the areas likely to be affected include Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, JNU, Mehrauli, IIT, Green Park, Safdarjang Enclave, R.K. Puram D-Block, Janakpuri and Sagarpur.

Water tankers will be available on telephone No. 26100644 (R.K. Puram), 26414746 (Greater Kailash), 25016439 (Najafgarh Zone) and 25535659 (D-Block Janakpuri).

Baba embarks on

world salvation tour

NEW DELHI: Sant Nirankari Mission head Baba Hardev Singhji Maharaj and his wife Mata Sawinderji embarked on a two-month world salvation tour on Wednesday. They will visit the US, Britain, Canada, Spain, Muscat and Dubai.

At Barcelona in Spain, the Baba will address a huge "samagam" to be attended by Sant Nirankari Mission devotees from across Europe.

Blasts condemned

NEW DELHI: India Islamic Cultural Centre president Sirajuddin Qureshi on Wednesday condemned the serial blasts in Mumbai and appealed to the citizens to keep calm and maintain harmony.

"People should exercise restraint and not make statements that inflame passions," he added in a statement. "If we stand united, we can root out terrorism in all its forms and manifestations."

Tea reduces bile stones

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal has said that drinking tea reduces the risk of bile stones and cancer, especially among women.

Quoting a Chinese study, Dr. Aggarwal said: "Bile stones, which are often seen in women and have been linked to obesity, occur in the ducts that transfer bile from the liver to the small intestine. If the stones block the opening of the gallbladder, they can cause discomfort and pain just below the ribcage on the right side of the abdomen."

Bail plea rejected

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday sent a police inspector involved in a nine-year-old custodial death case to 14 days' judicial custody while dismissing his bail application. Rejecting the bail plea, CMM Seema Maini sent accused Dharam Pal Singh, who was produced before her by CBI, to judicial custody till July 26. Victim Hari Shanker and seven others were on December 8, 1997 picked up by Singh in a stabbing case and lodged in custody, CBI claimed. Shanker allegedly died in custody and the case was handed over to the CBI in April 17, 1998.
