LG launches microwave ovens, washing machines

`The company is targeting sales worth Rs. 22 crores from the Punjab market this year'

Chandigarh: With the aim of reinforcing it's market leadership in the microwave ovens segment, consumer durables major LG Electronics on Wednesday announced the launch of its state-of-the-art products -- Solar DOM and WaveDOM models-- in Punjab and Chandigarh.

LG microwave ovens currently have a 37 per cent market share in the segment while they enjoy a dominating 53 per cent market share in Punjab alone.

``Anticipating a positive response to these products, the company is targeting sales worth Rs. 22 crores from the Punjab market this year", Anuj Ayodhyawasti, LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd (LGEIL) Product Group Head, Microwave Ovens, said here.

The WaveDOM models will be priced in the range of Rs. 6,490 for a basic Solo to Rs. 8,490 for a Grill Microwave Oven. The SolarDOM is positioned at a premium-end price of Rs. 33, 990.

Each LG model comes with a one-year warranty and assured service support.

In addition, LGEIL also announced the launch of their new range of washing machines equipped with ``Direct Drive'' technology in the Punjab market.

LG has a market share of 34 per cent in washing machines and is the market leader in the category, both in fully automatic and semi-automatic washing machines, as per ORG data.

According to Mr Rajiv Jain, Business Group Head, Washing Machines, the company was extremely optimistic about the success of the Direct Drive washing machines and hoped to garner 38 per cent market share this year.

The company is hopeful of garnering sales worth Rs. 60 crores from the Punjab market this year, Mr Jain said.
