Rain lashes city

CHENNAI: After a sultry day when the temperature hovered around 36 degrees, Chennai residents had a pleasant surprise when the sky opened up on Wednesday night.

Those driving home late in the evening were caught unawares. Heavy wind, thunder and lightning accompanied the downpour that lasted nearly two hours.

Several areas including Velacheri, Indira Nagar and Besant Nagar experienced rain. In Indira Nagar first avenue, a tree got uprooted in the sudden squall. The rain flooded Pallavan Salai. According to Meteorological department, the forecast on Thursday is partly cloudy skies with a shower or thundershower in some areas during evening or night.
