Minister visits houses of missing priests

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Cooperation and Devaswom G. Sudhakaran on Wednesday visited the houses of the two priests, Rajesh and Vidyadharan, who were washed away by waves at Mulloor, near Vizhinjam, last week while performing the `Arat' ceremony of Sri Krishna temple. Mr. Sudhakaran handed over a cheque for Rs.10,000 as assistance for the family of Vidyadharan. Vidyadharan's wife, Lathakumari, received the cheque. The Minister issued directives to intensify the search for the two missing persons. He said the Marine Enforcement and Coast Guard would be asked to assist the search operations. Kovalam MLA George Mercier and Principal Secretary, General Administration and Devaswom, E.K. Bharat Bhushan accompanied the Minister.

NGO Association stages demonstration

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NGO Association organised a demonstration and a public meeting in front of the Employment Directorate here on Wednesday in protest against the mass transfer of 61 employees in the name of general transfers.

Office-bearers appointed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: R. Rajan Kurukkal has been appointed chairman of SETO, the federation of the pro-Congress service organisations. The other office-bearers are D.A. Hariharan, vice-chairman, K. Vikraman Nair, P.S.M. Sadiq and T.P. Vijayakumar, conveners, and A.A. Kalam, treasurer.

B.Ed. list published

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The provisional category/ community lists of candidates who have qualified in the entrance examination for admission to B.Ed. courses have been published. A press note here on Wednesday said the list would be available for reference at the office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) and at the web site `cee-kerala.org' from July 13 . Complaints, if any, about the list should be submitted to the office of the CEE on or before July 17.

Rabies prevention

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city corporation will employ five veterinary volunteers each in the veterinary hospitals under the corporation as part of implementation of the integrated rabies control scheme, `Suraksha.' They will be trained by the Department of Animal Husbandry. Those interested in working as veterinary volunteers should put in their applications in the prescribed form in the veterinary hospitals within corporation limits before July 18. Details can be had from senior veterinary surgeon D. Ravikumar (ph: 94470 95473). — Staff Reporter
