KOCHI: The death anniversary of the former Chief Minister and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader P.K. Vasudevan Nair was observed on Wednesday. Inaugurating a meeting organised at the Town Hall, CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan said the country had lost a leader who could have made great contributions towards building people's movement against imperialism and communalism. Minister for Fisheries S. Sharma; K.E. Ismail and Panniyan Raveendran, MPs; Babu Paul, MLA; and the political leaders E.K. Narayanan, K.C. Mathew, Mundakayam Sadasivan and K.C. Prabhakaran participated. S. Sivasankara Pillai presided over the meeting. The CPI Ernakulam Mandalam committee organised memorial meetings at 80 centres in the city. E.M. Sunil Kumar, chairman of the town planning committee, hoisted the party flag at a function organised at the Mandalam committee office. CPI Mandalam secretary C.C. Sidharthan and the party leaders K.A. Joy and M.P. Radhakrishnan spoke. The CPI Edapally branch organised a meeting near Amrita hospital, Ponekara. All-India Trade Union Congress district secretary Joy Joseph and the party leaders A.R. Jayachandran and P.K. Joshy spoke.
