Venu Srinivasan addresses MSRIM convocation


MANAGING DIRECTOR of TVS Venu Srinivasan addressed the 10th annual convocation of M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management (MSRIM).

He reminded the students that learning is a life-long process. India should not remain complacent but capitalise further on their (students) entrepreneurial skills, he added.

IISc's Electrical Services Division Chairman H.P. Khincha delivered the presidential address.

BU decision

WHILE THE heated debate over reservations in educational institutions continue, Bangalore University authorities have decided to act tough with affiliated colleges not following the University Grants Commission and university norms in admitting students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories.

To make sure the reservation quota is filled according to guidelines, students coming under the reserved category have been asked to send a copy of their applications to the university, which will direct the affiliated colleges to follow the norms strictly and allot seats according to the rules.

The application copies have to be sent to the Special Officer, SC/ST Cell, Jnana Bharathi, Bangalore University, Bangalore-560056.

Alternative medicine

WITH GROWING demand for alternative systems of medicine, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has decided to start a five-and-half year programme in Naturopathy and Yoga from 2006-07 with 25 seats.

This drugless therapy is considered effective and is preferred by many because there are no side effects.

Special coaching

THE UNIVERSITY SC/ST Cell in collaboration with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan will conduct special coaching classes for KAS examination (preliminary) from July 19 to August 18.

Candidates can register their names on or before July 17.

Lecture on biomedicine

THE DEPARTMENT of Microbiology, Bangalore University, invited Jae-Sung Lee, Chairman, Department of Food Technology and Food Industry, Yeungnam University, South Korea, to deliver a lecture on Hepato-protective effects of brown rice fermented with mushrooms.

The talk was organised by the Bangalore Chapter of Indian Science Congress Association.

Studies in South Korea had showed that brown rice when fermented with a specific variety of mushrooms gained medicinal properties and was effective in protecting liver from carcinogens.

It was being marketed now as mushroom rice, Prof. Lee said.

Guest faculty

UNIVERSITY VISVESVARAYA College of Engineering has invited applications from candidates with a First Class Bachelor's or Master's degrees in CSE/ISE with adequate teaching experience to be appointed as guest faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Services of ME graduates and Ph.D scholars have also been sought for teaching ME courses.

Applicants should send their bio-data to the Chairman, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, UVCE, K.R. Circle, Bangalore 560 001 before July 21.
