`Strike still on'

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The indefinite strike by workers manning Sulabh toilets was still on, A.H. Basavaraju, BJP leader in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council, told The Hindu here on Wednesday. However, Manu Baligar, Deputy Commissioner (Health), said all Sulabh toilets were open and functioning.

Representatives of the workers were not available for comment.

Girish Kumar of Integriti India said the BMP officials had promised him that the pending dues would be paid soon. "I have requested the workers to re-open the toilets," he said and added that they were hesitant because the assurances given to them had not been fulfilled.
