Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Moved by the footage of a television channel showing the police beating up students agitating over the increased fees of engineering and other courses, the State Human Rights Commission has dashed off letters to the concerned police officers, asking them to send reports.

When contacted, Justice B. Subhashan Reddy told The Hindu that he had asked his staff to send written communications to the Superintendents of Police in Warangal and Chittoor and Vijayawada Police Commissioner.

The police officers have been asked to send their reports on the lathicharge to the Commission by Friday.

Mr. Reddy said that he had later seen the lathicharge here opposite the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University's office at Masab Tank. He said that he would send a letter asking Hyderabad Police Commissioner to send his report.
