ECE emerges clear favourite

  • Twenty-one opt for Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • The remaining five go for Computer Science Engineering course
  • 558 candidates take admission on the first day of counselling

HYDERABAD: Less than one-third of the top 100 students opted to join the engineering courses in the State and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) course was the clear favourite among the toppers.

The counselling began with Principal Secretary Higher Education Asutosh Mishra and APSCHE Chairman K.C. Reddy handing over the first admission letter to fourth ranker Vuppala Ravi Teja, who opted for ECE course in JNTU Hyderabad campus.

Only 26 candidates in the top 100 attended the counselling and out of them 21 opted for ECE course and the remaining five preferred Computer Science Engineering (CSE) course.

A majority of them opted for JNTU Hyderabad campus while four preferred the Osmania University College of Engineering and two took admission in the Andhra University College of Engineering.

"Future of communication engineering looks bright and that influenced my decision," said Ravi Teja revealing the reason behind the decision.

Officials said 558 candidates took admission on the first day out of the top 1,000 called for counselling. In Hyderabad 244 candidates appeared for counselling while 129 appeared at Guntur. Officials said 99 attended at Vishakapatnam, 52 at Tirupati and 19 each at Warangal and Kadapa. Meanwhile, Prof. K. C. Reddy said some minority engineering colleges had approached the Government questioning the logic behind the decision to ask them to fill 70 per cent seats with concerned minority.
