NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy on Wednesday said the State would seek a package from the Centre on the lines of the one announced for the farmers of Vidharbha region in Maharashtra. Dr. Reddy who arrived here for some official engagements on Thursday said his Government would request the Centre for a Rs 70,000-crore package for the all-round development of the State, including irrigation projects and not limit itself to rehabilitation of families of the farmers who committed suicide.
Irrigation projects
He said the State had already received some assistance under the accelerated irrigation development programme and proposes to prepare a package for irrigation projects that may not get fund pending clearance from the Central Water Commission. He said the State had already put a four-year moratorium on 8,000 crores of loans by farmers. With regard to Polavaram, he said there was an agreement between the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa and there was a mechanism to resolve any disputes. He said the State Government is awaiting response from Orissa.Dr. Reddy said either the State Government has to construct bund to avoid submergence of areas in Orissa or pay compensation to those likely to be affected.
