HYDERABAD: In the backdrop of reports that activists of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) could be behind the serial blasts in Mumbai on Tuesday, the police in Andhra Pradesh began a hunt for activists of these two groups working in the State. The city police picked up a person Abdullah from Secunderabad railway station earlier in the day as he was moving under suspicious circumstances. A notebook with some words written in code language was reportedly seized from him.
Man being questioned
On deciphering the words, the sleuths learnt that they were the names of some areas in Pakistan. But the suspect claimed that he was innocent and working in a hotel at Pune. He was being questioned. Sources said that the Maharashtra police higher-ups had contacted their counterparts here and enquired about Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) modules busted here. "It is too early to come to a conclusion but we don't want to leave anything to chance," a police officer said. From Shahed, who allegedly masterminded the Task Force office blast on last Dasara day, to former SIMI activists, the police are probing the possibility of the involvement of some persons connected to religious fundamentalist organisations.
Security beefed up
With the Bonalu festival procession in Secunderabad just four days away, city police beefed up security at every corner and strategic point in the city. The Cyberabad police posted pickets at important centres like Hi-tech city and reviewed the security scenario in the backdrop of the blasts.
