NEW DELHI: In an attempt to reduce traffic congestion and make commuting a pleasant experience on the Capital's major roads, the Delhi Government has decided to put important flyover projects on the fast track. Also, the Delhi Urban Arts Commission and the Delhi Development Authority Technical Committee have cleared major projects including an underpass as ITO Chungi, a multi-layer flyover project at Mukarba Chowk on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway and a flyover at Naraina on Ring Road. Giving this information here, Public Works Department and Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia said he had issued instructions to the Principal Secretary (PWD) and the Engineer-in-Chief to put all the projects and bridges on the fast track so that their construction is completed by 2009, well before the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Dr. Walia informed that he had reviewed the status of the projects relating to flyovers and bridges and instructed the engineers concerned to get the pending projects cleared from DUAC and DDA to enable PWD to start construction work at the earliest. Dr. Walia said DUAC had cleared the Naraina flyover, ITO Chungi underpass, Shastri Park grade separator and road under bridge (RUB) connecting Road No. 58-64. DDA Technical Committee had also given the go-ahead for construction of three flyovers between NH-8 on Outer Ring Road, Azadpur flyover and Mangolpuri flyover. The actual construction work on flyovers at Mukarba Chowk, Naraina, Neela Hauz, Mangolpuri, the Rs.70-crore ITO Chungi underpass and the Rs.33-crore RUB connecting Road No.58-64 would commence before the end of this year. The construction of three flyovers between NH-8 and IIT on Outer Ring Road, Azadpur flyover and Shastri Park grade separator would start in the first quarter of next year.
