This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru unveiled in London on July 12 a portrait of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak whom he described as "the father of the Indian revolution." The portrait has been put up in one of the two halls on the first floor of India House where the main offices of the Indian High Commission are located. Dominating the other hall is a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi unveiled there some years ago. The centenary of Tilak's birth falls on July 23. A Tilak birthday centenary committee has been formed in London. Mr. Nehru said that in Indian history Tilak would be revered as the father of the Indian revolution for the way in which he built it, prepared people for it and, when his strength failed, handed over the torch to Gandhiji.
