dated July 14, 1956: The Third Sector

The Planning Minister, Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda, said in Ahmedabad on July 12 that he believed organisations like the Bharat Sevak Samaj were the proper institutions for developing what he called the "Third Sector" by mobilising the voluntary services of people without any expectation of material returns to the individual contributor. The "Third Sector," according to him, would be the large sphere of voluntary activities by the people, normally not undertaken by the profit-seeking private sector and the compulsion-driven public sector.
