PERINTHALMANNA: The Government will not allow the Poonthanam Illam to fall into disuse and decay and will make timely intervention to ensure its development as a cultural and literary centre, Minister for Devaswom and Cooperation G. Sudhakaran has said. He was speaking at a reception given to him at Poonthanam Illam here on Thursday. He said the Government would ensure the conduct of literary festival held annually at Poonthanam Illam. Last year, the festival was not held at the Illam following opposition from a group of people. The Minister said that the Government would not allow the Guruvayoor Devaswom, which holds sway over Poothanam Illam, to neglect either the Illam or the annual festival. If the Government can give a property to the Devaswom Board, it can take it back too, he said. He asked the Devaswom to perform its duty. V. Sasikumar, MLA, inaugurated the meeting.
