KOLKATA: The 15-day Calcutta monsoon racing season spread over three months will commence on July 14 and go on till Oct. 11. About 257 horses under the care of 17 trainers (13 with `A' and 4 with `B' license) will participate. For the 104 races to be run during the season, the advertised stake money is Rs 1, 26, 55,000 with cups and trophies valued at Rs 1, 44, 000. The monsoon track has been relaid with certain modifications. The following are the special race days: Aug. 16 (Independence Cup), Sept. 2 (Calcutta Fillies Trial Stakes), Sept. 9 (Calcutta Colts Trial Stakes), Sept. 20 (Monsoon Cup) and Oct. 7 (Calcutta Derby Trial Stakes).
