Rupee dips further

MUMBAI: The rupee fell further sharply against the U.S. currency in range-bound trading and closed at 46.33/34 a dollar on Thursday, mainly due to firm dollar overseas and soaring world crude prices.

In quiet trading at the interbank foreign exchange market here, the rupee lost another ten paise from Wednesday's close of 46.23/24, trapped in a range of 46.26-46.34 during the day. The rupee opened weak at 46.26/27.

The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the U.S. currency at Rs. 46.29 and for the single European unit at Rs. 58.83.— PTI
