BANGALORE: Acting Chairman of the Legislative Council Sachidanand L. Khot has summoned the Deputy Director of the Abdul Nazir Sab Rural Development Institute in Mysore and some journalists in connection with a breach of privilege motion moved against them by 24 members of the House. Moving the motion, the members said that on Wednesday Mr. Ashokanand made a derogatory statement on the budgetary allocation to gram panchayats to a Mysore-based newspaper. Mr. Khot referred the motion to the Privileges Committee of the House on Wednesday. The members, who began a dharna on Wednesday evening, demanded that Mr. Ashokanand be summoned to the House and reprimanded. Mr. Khot, who convened a meeting of some members on the issue in his chambers before the House met on Thursday, responded to their demand. Objecting to the House giving undue importance to the issue, V.R. Sudarshan (Congress) said that the House was scheduled to assemble at 11 a.m. but met only at 12.45 p.m., affecting the transaction of scheduled business, he said, adding that the Government should not belittle the House. The Minister concerned should have made a statement in the House, he added.
