Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The former Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, will resign from the Legislative Assembly on Friday prior to his formal induction into the Congress.

He told presspersons here on Thursday that after submitting his resignation to the Speaker, he would leave for New Delhi on July 17 to call on top Congress leaders, including its president, Sonia Gandhi.

Mr. Siddaramaiah is scheduled to join the Congress at a public rally in Davangere, which will be attended by Ms. Gandhi.

The eight Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs associated with him are expected to join the Congress later.
