Pondicherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said here on Thursday that the scheme to distribute ten-kilo rice free of cost every month to each of the families covered under the ration card system would be launched here on Saturday (July 15) to mark the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and K. Kamaraj. Mr. Rangasamy told newsmen that the scheme would benefit as many as 2.97 lakh families in the Union Territory. Rice would be available through ration shops. The Government would incur an expenditure of Rs 36 crore every year. Mr. Rangasamy said he had already held discussions with representatives of merchants' associations to ensure the prices of essential commodities were kept under control.
