KOLKATA: The West Bengal Government has ordered a crackdown on groups comprising activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which might be operating in the State in various guises. This is part of the State Government's special security measures following the serial blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar. Wherever Islamic militants were active, SIMI members were known to have a presence, a senior State official said here on Thursday. Expressing serious concern over the blasts, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said the blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar and the terrorist attacks in other cities such as London and Madrid revealed a similar modus operandi being employed by the perpetrators. The State would send a team of security experts to Mumbai to find out from the investigating officers how the terrorists had struck. "We will have to ascertain who they [the perpetrators] are and the way they operate," Mr. Bhattacharjee told the State Assembly. "Just as we are one in grief and condolence for the victims, we need to get together to resist any attempt to repeat such incidents here," he said
