To protest against terrorist attacks in Mumbai and Srinagar

  • Leaders criticise BJP for trying to take political mileage from Mumbai blasts
  • They appealed to the public to maintain unity

NEW DELHI: The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) and the Delhi State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) organised a joint silent march from Mandi House to Parliament Street on Thursday to protest against the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai and Srinagar.

At the conclusion of the march on Parliament Street, the gathering observed two minutes of silence in memory of those killed in the Mumbai and Srinagar blasts. Senior AIDWA and CPI (M) leaders addressed the gathering.

The leaders came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party for trying to take political mileage from the tragedy that struck Mumbai. CPI (M) Delhi State committee secretary P.M.S. Grewal said the statements issued by the BJP leaders indicated how desperate the party was to use the blasts for flaring up communal passions to regain its political influence. "This is highly condemnable and must be strongly opposed," he said.

Others who addressed the meeting were AIDWA general secretary Sudha Sundaraman and Delhi State AIDWA secretary Ashalata. AIDWA Delhi State president Kirti Singh presided over.

The speakers described the terrorist strikes as an inhuman act perpetrated by those who sought to undermine the unity of the country and foment communal tension.
