Good day for Divij Sharan

NEW DELHI: Divij Sharan won both his singles and doubles first round matches in the $10,000 ITF men's tennis tournament in Tg. Mures, Romania.

In singles, the Delhi lefthander beat qualifier Piotr Zielinski of Poland 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, Divij had a more authoritative 6-2, 6-1 triumph in partnership with Bogdan Leonte of Romania against Rares Cuzdriorean and Alexandru Lazar in the pre-quarterfinals.

In the $25,000 ITF women's tournament at Felixstove, Britain, the Bhambri sisters, Ankita and Sanaa, went down 1-6, 7-6(5), 3-6 in the quarterfinals against the third-seeded Alberta Brianti of Italy and Kelly Liggan of Ireland.

In singles, qualifier Sanaa lost 5-7, 3-6 to the fourth-seeded Katie O'Brien of Britain.
