VIJAYAWADA: Kadapa beat Vizianagaram 7-0 and Kurnool blanked Prakasam by the same margin in the 24th Andhra junior boys' inter-district hockey tournament at the S.P.G. Grounds at Nandyal (Kurnool) on Thursday. In other matches, Nellore defeated Anantapur 3-1 and East Godavari thrashed Krishna 4-0. Twelve teams are taking part in the four-day tournament, which would conclude on July 16. Earlier, Olympian Mukesh Kumar along with Andhra Hockey Association secretary Niranjan Kumar inaugurated the tournament, which is sponsored by Vijayavani Vidya Niketan. The Andhra junior team for the 34th National junior championship to be held at Etawah (Uttar Pradesh) from August 8 to 19 will be selected at this tournament. The association is organising a coaching camp for the selected team at Gachibowli stadium (Hyderabad) from July 20. — Sports Reporter
