Volleyball
VISAKHAPATNAM: Y. Kanakamahalakshmi and K. Sri Lata, trainees of the SAI Sports Training Centre here who had won the women's event of the beach volleyball National championships held in Hyderabad recently, and their coach P. Mohan Babu were congratulated by the SAI-STC in-charge T. Kishor Kumar, president of AP Volleyball Association S. Kodandaramaiah, vice-president P.G.V.R. Naidu, STC volleyball coach G. Lingeswara Rao and others.
Selection trials
The District Sports Authority will conduct trials from July 14 to select the district teams for the Chief Minister's Cup tournaments, according to the District Sports Development Officer K.V. Shankar Rao. Boys and girls born on or after January 1, 1988 and studying intermediate or in high school are eligible. Age proof and three passport size photographs have to be submitted at the time of trials. The selections schedule: July 14: Handball (DLB ground, Salagrampuram, 9 a.m.), kho-kho (NRT Stadium, Anakapalle, 4 p.m.), volleyball (Port Stadium out door courts, 9 a.m.), weightlifting (Port Stadium SAI STC, 4 p.m.). July 16: Ball badminton (Railway Institute, 8 a.m.), athletics (Police Stadium, 8 a.m.), kabaddi (Port Stadium, 3 p.m.), swimming (Aqua Sports Complex, Beach Road, 8 a.m.). July 18: Basketball (Port Stadium, 4.30 p.m.), carrom (LIC building, 9 a.m.). July 19: Boxing (Port Stadium ring, 8 a.m.), hockey (DLB ground, Salagrampuram, 7.30 a.m.). Football trails will be held at AU ground from 7 a.m. on July 14 and 15.
Sports Hostel selections
SAI Sports Training Centre will conduct trials from 4 p.m. at its premises in the Port Stadium on Friday to select trainees in boxing and volleyball (boys and girls) and weightlifting (only girls). Players in the 14-18 years age group are eligible to appear for the trials but the rule will be relaxed in case of meritorious players, according to in-charge of STC T. Kishor Kumar. Boys and girls more than 190 cm and 170 cm in height respectively will be considered for selection in volleyball. However, exceptional cases may be considered. The original and photostat copies of date of birth certificate, sports certificates if any and two passport size photos have to be submitted at the time of trials. Players have to appear for the trials with proper kit. They have to report to the in-charge of SAI-STC.
