Boxing makes its debut in MGU

KOCHI : Boxing will make its debut in the Mahatma Gandhi University this season and Kochi's Sacred Heart College will host the university's first inter-collegiate men's championship in the sport in January.

"Since we don't have the equipment, we plan to borrow the boxing ring from the Navy," said Binu George Varghese, the MG University's Assistant Director of Physical Education.

The MG University sports season opens in August with swimming at the St Thomas College in Pala. The athletic championship will be held at the Nehru Stadium, Kottayam, in November.
