Accused bid to end life

Sangareddy: Jai Hind (28), an accused person in 13 theft cases, attempted suicide near Patancheru police station on Thursday. He allegedly consumed poison while entering the police station and began vomiting and fainted. He was shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. - Staff Reporter

6 killed in accident

KHAMMAM: Six persons were killed in a road accident involving an autorickshaw and a lorry in Mulkapalli police station limits here on Friday. All passengers of the autorickshaw, including the driver, died on the spot.

Protest against blasts

Murder case slapped against councillor

ADILABAD: The Nirmal town police registered a case against ward no. 24 councillor Ayyanagari Rajender of the Congress and four others for allegedly killing one Thotakura Jagadish on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. - Staff Reporter

Water released

KURNOOL: Some 3,050 cusecs was released for Srisailam right main canal by operating gates at Pothireddypadu regulator. Superintending Engineer Jalandhar said water was being stored in Velugodu reservoir.

Woman burnt alive?

VIJAYAWADA: An agriculture labourer Chintagunta Jhansi Rani (36) was allegedly burnt alive at Gandigunta labour colony, near Vuyyuru, on Thursday. The police charged a landlord with killing her. According to the Vuyyuru police, Gummadi Sudheer (40), landlord, used to harass Jhansi, a divorcee. Sudheer entered into an argument after which he allegedly doused Jhansi with kerosene and set her ablaze. - Staff Reporter

Environment project

HYDERABAD: The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has accorded clearance to the State to implement a project on natural resources and environmental accounting to be carried out by EPTRI. The Rs. 1.55-crore project, to be taken up with German assistance, would cover survey and utilisation of land.

MRO suspended

MAHABUBNAGAR: Mandal Revenue Officer of Peddamandadi M. Chennaiah was suspended for allegedly allotting 1,016 acres of Government land on lease for a period of 33 years to an NGO without obtaining prior permission or informing the higher authorities.

3 women naxals held

KURNOOL: The police arrested three women extremists on Thursday. B. Malla Reddy, SP, said Jangam Balamani alias Padma (22) and Jetti Sirisha alias Santhi (23) were held at Baireni forest area. B. Anuradha (22) was held at Narapureddy Kunta.

Dry spell in State

HYDERABAD: A monsoon lull is prevailing over the State resulting in dry spell in some districts. Weathermen attributed this to lack of weather systems like depression or low pressure area which would have precipitated the dark clouds to rain. Light rain is likely all over the State on Friday.
