Kochi: The State Government, on Friday, opposed the interim plea made by managements of self-financing professional colleges before the Kerala High Court to allow them to go ahead with their own selection process for admission to 50 per cent of the management seats. Advocate-General C.P. Sudhakara Prasad submitted that since the 2004 law on self-financing colleges was repealed following the new enactment, the managements could not claim the benefit of an earlier Supreme Court interim order. The interim order was passed when the law enacted in 2004 was challenged before the Supreme Court. After the Kerala Professional Colleges Act came into force, the petition before the Supreme Court had become futile. So, the State could not permit the managements to fill up the management seats. They were bound to follow the existing law. The submissions were made when Justice S. Siri Jagan took up the petitions by the managements for hearing again on Thursday. The Judge on Wednesday reserved his order on the interim plea. The management submitted that they had taken all steps for admission to the management quota on the basis of the Supreme Court order.
