SHIMLA: The Himachal Government plans to give permanent habitat to about 1,420 identified nomadic families in the State and has extended the re-identification survey period for such families to August 31 this year. The decision was taken at the Gujjar Welfare Board's 13th annual meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. A majority of these migrant tribes are called `Gujjars' here. The list of all identified families will be displayed in the Deputy Commissioners' offices after the survey. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said at the meeting that the Government had been paying added attention to the educational needs of the nomadic tribes in Himachal and has made 17 mobile schools operational to impart education to 365 children of the community who were later being transferred to regular schools or brought under Education Guarantee Scheme Centres.
