It was cowardice of the worst kind to target the innocent: CPI (M)

JAIPUR: Political parties and activists here have condemned the Mumbai serial blasts that cost many lives and caused injuries to hundreds of persons. They blamed the poor intelligence network of the railways and the Central and Maharashtra governments for the security lapses, which allowed the blasts to take place.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Bharatiya Jan Shakti, People's Union for Civil Liberties, National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights and Rajasthan Samagra Seva Sangh in separate statements have described the blasts as a grim reminder of the threats posed by nefarious elements to the unity and integrity of the nation.

CPI (M) State Secretary Vasudev in a statement condemned the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and Srinagar, terming them as manifestations of barbarism. It was cowardice of the worst kind to target innocent people, he said. In the wake of the terrorist attacks the CPI (M) has called off the first phase of its Statewide agitation in protest against price rise it had planned to carry out from July 13.

Prof. Vasudev said the party units had instead been asked to hold meetings and silent processions against terrorism from July 13 to 16. A campaign to promote communal harmony and brotherhood would be carried out simultaneously, he said. The second phase of the campaign from July 16 would stand as announced earlier, he said.

PUCL, while seeking punishment of those responsible for the bloodshed, said there should not be any politics on this human tragedy and innocent persons should not be persecuted in the name of investigation. It sought relief for the kin of the victims and assistance to the injured persons.

Bharatiya Jan Shakti's national vice-president Chandraraj Singhvi in a statement said those who indulged in tactics of terror should be replied to in the same language.
