More CCTVs for rail stations

Metal detectors, sniffer dogs also to be arranged

NEW DELHI:
The Railway Ministry is considering the installation of more closed circuit TVs (CCTVs) at all important railway stations, besides other measures to tighten security.
The need for such steps has been felt after the serial blasts in Mumbai trains.
"We will arrange for closed circuit TV surveillance, sniffer dogs and metal detectors at all important railway stations," Railway Minister Lalu Prasad told mediapersons here on Thursday.
Official sources indicated that although CCTVs had already been installed in about eight to nine stations, the Ministry has also set a target to extend the net of CCTV surveillance to 49 other stations this year.
Mr. Prasad said passenger security would be given top priority in the aftermath of Tuesday's blasts and the Government would give more powers to the Railway Protection Force.
